Throughout his prep career, he played all three position on the offensive line and also would lineup as a short-yardage running back that once scored a rushing touchdown. Calhoun earned All-State First Team as a defensive lineman AISA by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, chosen by the AISA for the East-West All-Star Game as an offensive lineman, and was named All-Metro First-Team offensive lineman by the Birmingham News. Calhoun signed to play with Mississippi State after being rated the number seven offensive lineman in the state. Started three years at Mississippi St, and would All-Sec Honors.
