Player Bio: Jahlani Tavai prepped at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, Ca, where he played defensive line and tight end. He was the all-CIF Southern Section Northern Division first team and All-Bay League first team and led Mira Costa to an undefeated 2014 year and winning the Division II State Championship. Recruited by USC, Arizona, San Jose St, and Hawaii, Tavai would choose to play his collegiate ball at the University of Hawaii where he became a star for the Warriors. Tavai was a four-year starter for the Warriors and led the team in tackles his sophomore and junior years. He would injure his shoulder his senior year missing four games with a Grade-3 sprain to his AC Joint. The injury required surgery during the offseason and is now fully recovered to resume football duties. Tavai comes from a pedigree of football players as he had two older brothers that played collegiate at Kansas (Jordan)  and USC (J.R.) who also played pro for the Tennessee Titans. His younger brother Justus is a defensive lineman for the University of Hawaii

Strengths: An instinctive player that established the ball and works angry to make the tackle. Great knack for the ball and plays well in a crowd that sells out his body during blitzing. A very tough linebacker that is very disciplined on the field that controls the field. Very strong, has good feet week and keep excellent pad level with hands.​

Weaknesses:Tends to get caught on his heels while anticipating traffic and surrenders yardage and the opportunity to deliver an impact play. Don't run through the ball carriers and often drag-down tackler who can be bounced around in space. Doesn't have notable closing speed and labors when asked to work sideline-to-sideline. Cannot be trusted in coverage, especially covering backs out the backfield.

Does He Fit?: Yes, a true run stopper that is definitely is what the Rams will need to play in the middle. Sort of remind you of another former University of Hawaii and former Rams Pisa "Hawaii Five-O" Tinoisamoa. Can come in contribute on special teams immediately and become a quality backup
