He played defensive end that earned him All-State Second-Team honors after recording 60 tackles (19 for losses), with eleven sacks. Selected as a consensus four-star prospect and invited to play in the 2014 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl. Taylor also played basketball for Hopewell to add to his resume. He received a scholarship to Tennessee and red-shirting his freshman year. He would start in 22 games and ending his career with 118 tackles (26.5 tackles for loss), six forced fumbles, four recovered fumbles, and six pass deflections.
