WORLDWIDE RAMS

DOUG NELSON

Picture
Player Bio: Love played High School Football at Liberty High School in Bakersfield, Cal. As a freshman, the school reported that he would be the team's quarterback, but he was starting as a senior, passing for over 2,100 yards and rushing for over 800 yards. He played his college ball at Utah State, where he had an up and down career, but showed the kind of physical talent that will encourage pro scouts to overlook some of the inconsistencies, include a severe regression in 2019 compared to the year before. Love is forgoing his senior year at Utah State to enter the NFL draft.

#10 jordan love vs wake forest (2019)

Strengths: I saw Love play against the Wyoming Cowboys as well as some other games, and there is a whole lot here to like. Love is a gifted passer with a strong arm and plenty of athleticism. He throws a great deep ball and throws well on the move, but at the same time, he looks to make plays downfield and generally runs only as a second option, and he displays significant pocket presence. At 6'4 and 223 pounds, he has ideal size for an NFL quarterback. While the Mountain West may not be the Big Ten or the SEC, Love played quality opponents such as Boise State and Utah in his college career. Physically it is hard to find much about Jordan Love to make anyone think he cannot be an outstanding NFL quarterback. Could also argue that much of his 2019 regression may be due to the team around him. Even in 2019, he threw for 20 touchdowns and over 3,000 yards, though the 17 interceptions that same season was a concern.

Weaknesses: Basically, there are two significant concerns with Love, decision-making, and reading defenses. He is still young--do not forget he would be a senior this season if not declaring for the 2020 NFL Draft--so there is still hope that he can improve in those areas. Love does not always have great touch and accuracy outside the numbers, and at times he seemed to lose his poise a little bit in pressure situations. The hope is that good coaching could erase some of the issues. That said, Love is probably a little bit more of a ''project" than an instant starter for a team with playoff aspirations.

Draft Grade: 6.6

Draft Projection: 1st - 2nd round (Potentially can slip into the third round, but doubt it. The Raiders potentially will have an interest in Love as a replacement to David Carr.)

NFL Comparison: Colin Kaepernick
