In high school, and named to the state 4A All-Star team at Casper Natrona High School at no less than three positions;. Defensive back, wide receiver, and punter. As a senior defensive back, he logged five pass deflections and six interceptions. Wilson was recruited out of high school by the University of Colorado but chose to stay in-state and play for the University of Wyoming, where he logged a long list of awards, including being a finalist for the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker.
