WORLDWIDE RAMSEd "Pi Double I" Henderson Player Bio: Riley Stapleton prepped at Indiana High School in Indiana, PA. During his senior year at Indiana High School, he caught 69 passes for 1,104 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. These stats were significant enough to earn him as the Pennsylvania Writers' First-Team Class AAA All-State. The honors would end there as he also collected All WesternPAFootball.net Big School and WPIAL All-Greater Allegheny Conference First-Team honors. In his junior year, 50 receptions for 702 yards. Stapleton also took his talent to the hardwood at Indiana High, amassing for over 1,000 points with a 14.2 PPG average and 6.4 rebounds per game his senior year. In his junior year, he had a 14.0 PPG average and averaged 5.8 rebounds per game. He took his talent east of Indiana High to James Madison University as he would redshirt his freshman year. Stapleton started making noise his redshirt sophomore season in the CAA. By the time he ended his career his senior year, he would finish as number two all-time leader with 169 receptions, second all-time with 22 receiving touchdowns, and the fifth all-time leaders with 2,113 receiving yards. He is a physically strong has the size of a hybrid tight-end playing in a wide receiver body. He has a massive frame that provides a big target for the quarterback and with a wide catch radius. He has pure, soft, and natural, reliable hands that catch almost everything thrown in his window. He has deceptive speed who knows how to get himself open. His route tree is unlimited, and he can use his frame well to fend off the defender. He runs beautiful crisp routes and uses good feet to create separation from the defender. He is a fearless competitor who will catch passes in the middle of the field and does not go down by the first contact. Stapleton is a legitimate red-zone threat and specialized in the back shoulder fades. He knows how to use his frame to lock down and control his blocks against linebackers and with crackback blocks. Stapleton uses his long wingspan against the defensive back to create running lanes in the open field. He is a quarterback's best friend as he can work back to him when pressure occurs by getting open.
Weaknesses: He lacks mobility and appears to be tight in the hips. He lacks blazing speed, but he knows how to make it up by creating moves to get open. At the next level, he may develop different moves on his routes. They worked well at the collegiate level; however, crafty defenders will pick up that and jump on the routes to defend against the ball. On the crackback block, he will adjust his target area at the next level, will get flagged for defenseless hits. He will benefit more by either losing 10-15 pounds as a receiver or put on the weight. Weight gain may benefit him more as he will provide a mismatch issue as a hybrid tight end. At best will be used more as possession or third-down receiver in the middle of the field.
