Player Bio: Tanner Muse attended South Point High School in Belmont, NC. He played running back, free safety, and punt returner. Muse was a three-year starter, and his senior year, rushed 90 times for 1,292 yards and seven receptions for 150 yards and six games with over 100 yards rushing. On defense, he recorded 150 tackles and four interceptions. He was named All-State First-Team on defense and was a Shrine Bowl invitee. Muse also excelled in baseball, and his senior year, he batted .474 his junior year with five home runs and 33 runs batted in and hit .380 his senior year. Muse chose Clemson over UNC, NCS, and South Carolina, where red-shirted his freshman year. He was a three starter and his final 2019 season he finished the season with 54 tackles (36 solos), 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks for loss, four interceptions, and three pass deflections. He ended his Tiger career with 237 tackles (104 solos), ten tackles for loss, four sacks, 15 pass breakups, and seven interceptions, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble. He won two National Championships with his time at Clemson.​

#19 Tanner Muse 2019 Highlights

Strengths: As a safety, he has the body of a linebacker with broad shoulders and a solid upper body. He is a physical safety who enjoys coming downhill and conveying massive hits on the ball carrier. He is an excellent open-field tackler who rarely misses tackles while wrapping up the offender. He appears to run through the ball carrier rarely see them falling forward. He is a versatile safety who can line up in the box for run support, the slot as a defender, and the high and low safeties position. He can finishes plays, whether it is a pass tracking the ball in the air or right angles to the ball on the ground. More than likely will be drafted as a linebacker with his speed after being asked to work out with them at the 2020 NFL Combine.

Weaknesses: At the 2020 NFL Combine, Muse seemed to struggle when flipping hips, which will be viable for in man coverages. He has good speed but, at the next level, will not have enough time to recover once beat. He potentially will strive more at the hybrid linebacker position because of his size as a safety. Better fit to be around the ball no more than 15-yards away from the line scrimmage.
