He transferred to Cedar Hill High School in Cedar Hill, TX, a Dallas suburb. As a three-year starter, he accommodated Cedar Hill with winning the Texas Class 6A title. He was ranked #91 of the Dallas Morning New top 100. He received a scholarship to Tulsa University and red-shirted his freshman year. Weighed only 200 pounds as a freshman, bulked up with over 60-pounds of muscle to his frame. In 2018, he led the nation with five forced fumbles. Gipson finished his career with 114 tackles (63 solos), 25.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, eight forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
