Player Bio: Troy Dye was a highly-recruited player coming out of high school at Norco High School In California, where he was an all-state selection, no minor feat in a state with the number of high school football players as the Golden State. Dye racked up four interceptions as a Senior, including a pick-six, 105 tackles, including 11.5 for a loss. He committed to Oregon over several high-profile programs, including Michigan, Wisconsin, and Colorado.

#35 Troy Dye vs utah (2019)

Strengths: Very smart, athletic linebacker who does not take plays off and can chase down ball carriers. High motor guy and good in pass coverage. Can rush the quarterback effectively when asked to do so. Good on special teams. Very coachable. Well-suited to play inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. Reads play well. Played in big-games in a power conference, so he is not likely to be awed by the bright lights of the NFL. Started almost every game in college, so he has a lot of game experience. If the Rams end up losing Corey Littleton to free agency and Dye is available in the second round, they may well end up pulling the trigger on this guy. The biggest hurdle he could be selected by the time Los Angeles has a pick. Tall enough so that he could add some weight without hindering his athleticism too much.

Weaknesses: The biggest knock on Dye is that he is not the most significant, or the most physical player on the playing field. He can get overwhelmed by blockers, especially more massive offensive linemen on power running plays. Sometimes over-pursues and fails to maintain gap integrity. While he is generally a three-down player, he might have to come off of the field on short-yardage and goal-line plays, at least until he can bulk up a little bit.

Draft Grade: 6.19

Draft Projection: 1st-2nd round

NFL Comparison: Kyle Van Noy
