Strengths: He is shorter than normal-sized safety but posses excellent cerebral skills as a defensive back. He diagnoses play well with pre-snap reads and communicates with the defensive backfield to align them properly. He is a physical safety that will give him success in the NFL, being an undersized safety. He is fearless when it comes to the run; with excellent closing speed, he will come downhill fast and hit below the pad level to make substantial tackles. His straight-line speed allows him to change directions to get to the running backs trying to turn the edge or simply running them down from behind to save long touchdown runs. He can sit back and diagnose the plays to determine if it is pass or run. Against the pass, he is aggressive and will administer forceful hits simultaneously as the ball arrives to jar loose the ball. He has good ball-hawking skills and can high-point the ball on bigger receivers.

Weaknesses: He will tend to get caught with his eyes in the backfield and exposes himself for play-action on deep vertical routes. He does not change direction and does not have excellent recovery skills. Washington will have problems with his speed with wide receivers and running backs at the next level. He struggles to disengage and shed blocks and will get washed out of the play. He needs to add more bulk and strength to make an entire season at the next level.
