Player Bio: Sam Ehlinger prepped at Westlake High School in Austin, Texas. He was a three-year starting quarterback at Westlake for years and became the all-time schools leading passer. Ehlinger passed for 7,491 passing yards and 89 touchdowns and compiled a 23-6 record. In addition to his statistics, he rushed for 2,395 career yards and 35 touchdowns for a career of 9,996 total yards and set a new record. Ehlinger garnered two-time All-District,  2015 APSE Texas Player of the Year, All-Central Texas Player of the Year, and participated in Nike’s The Opening was an Elite 11.

Strengths: He is a dual-threat quarterback that is more productive as a runner than throwing the ball. He is a powerful runner who attacks the defense with comfortability anywhere on the field. He does not settle for what the defense gives him; he looks to fight for more yardage. As a passer, he is usually a pretty accurate passer. He uses his legs to move around in the pocket to follow his progressions to find the open receiver down the field. Making off-scripted plays is where he does his most damage as a passer.

Weaknesses: He does not have a relatively strong arm for the next level, which will make a quality NFL backup. He will not be able to make those tight-window throws required and will only be effective with receivers with extensive catch radius. He usually looks to beat defenses with his legs; something will not favor him at the next level. Playing in a spread offense he will struggle fitting in on a pro-style football offenses.
