Player Bio: Wyatt Davis was a 5-star recruit in 2017, playing for the highly touted  St. John Bosco High School in Southern California.  The  6’, 4”, 315 linemen earned The Los Angeles Times Southern California Player of the Year as a senior in high school and won the  U.S. Army's Glenn Davis Award for excellence in community service, education, and athletic distinction. Davis attended Ohio and redshirted in 2017. He started the final two games of the year at right guard in 2018.   Davis earned first-team Associated Press All-American and first-team All-Big Ten in 2019, starting every game at right tackle. Davis initially opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 but opted in and earned first-team AP All-American and all-conference selection in 2020. He helped lead the Buckeyes to the national championship game, but Davis was forced to leave that contest with an injury in the first half.

#52 Wyatt Davis VS CLEMSON (2019)

#52 Wyatt Davis HIGHLIGHTS

Strengths
  • Strong hand and delivers a blow at the point of attack. .
  • Very powerful lower body.
  • Slides feet and hips into secure position post-contact.
  • Physical

Weaknesses
  • Smaller frame than desired for an NFL guard.
  • Change of direction and body control
  • Average feet to make block adjustments on moving bodies.
  • Will default into maul mode rather than trusting technique.
  • Prematurely wanders away from home base at times in pass pro.
  • Lack of short-area quickness to close down gaps against blitzers.
  • Unable to access length for recovery redirection.

Conclusion: Davis can be a day one starter in the NFL. His strength on film far exceeds his bench press strength. He has the toughness and motor that is desired by scouts. Though not as athletic as some may desire at guard, Davis’ size, technique and upside more than make up for any lack of athleticism that some scouts see.

Draft Projection: 3rd Round (late)

NFL Comparison: David DeCastro (Pittsburg Steelers)
