Player Bio: Zaven Collins attended Hominy High School in Hominy, OK. At Hominy High, he was a talented and versatile football player who started at linebacker, quarterback, and safety. During his senior year, on offense, Collins rushed for 1,520 yards with 27 touchdowns and threw for 1,600 yards and 23 touchdowns.  He tallied 91 tackles, three interceptions, and a fumble recovery at linebacker and safety. Collins rushed for 4,084 rushing yards and 54 touchdowns, ending his prep career while throwing 3,056 yards and 32 touchdowns. He led Hominy High to the Class A StateTitle after a 14-0 perfect season.

#23 Zaven Collins career highlights

Strengths: He is an enormous-sized EDGE Rusher that has the built of an NFL inside linebacker. He has a thick frame, excellent strength, with above-average speed. He has a rare size and skill set complemented by his length. He will fly downhill to make tackles with a mad tackling radius. He is aggressive and a solid tackler when he penetrates the gaps and will deliver a solid blow. He has excellent short-area burst to get to the ball. He has unimaginable long speed allowing him to chase down many plays from the backside. He is a cerebral linebacker who will diagnose the play and have insightful read and react reactions. As a pass-rusher, a running back is a sitting duck trying to block him one-on-one. He will run right through them to get home to the quarterback. He has various pass rush moves, chop, tomahawk, dip, swim, dip, and bend, and uses his hands violently to get to the quarterback. His hands are active and will bat down balls attempted to be thrown. He has the ability to drop back in coverage to defend and had several interceptions. The former quarterback examines the oppositions eyes to make plays in coverage.

Weaknesses: He has so much talent but comes with the price of too many flaws. He does not possess the high motor expected from a disruptive EDGE rusher and not very fluid in the hips to be so athletic. He seems to show talent when he is less compromised to make a play. He does not disengage from blocks well, gets sealed inside, and does not hold leverage, and seems not to fight for it. He seems to lose confidence when he cannot shed blocks or get blown out of the play. He shows signs of stiffness when breaking down for tackles, and shifty running backs will cause him to struggle with open field tackles. He is a player with second-round draft traits that potentially slip to the later rounds because of his weaknesses.
