Game Preview of Colts vs Rams

Rams Offense VS. Colts Defense

This game could really tell us a lot about where Jared Goff is going into the 2017 season, and not to mention the general state of the Los Angeles Rams.

The Colts defense was not very good last season, and they will be missing their best corner Vontae Davis, on game day. That means the Colts defensive line will have to generate a pass rush, or Rams recievers Sammy Watkins and Cooper Kupp, and not to mention the their talented young tight ends Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett can have a big game.

My biggest worry for the Rams is the right side of the O-line, where Jamon Brown and Rob Havenstein has struggled mightily in the pre-season. Will the Indy pass rush exploit that side of the line with overloaded blitzes? If they do , will it open up some big-plays for the Rams?

The next big question of course is which Todd Gurley we will see running the ball. Will it be the elite running back of 2015, or the pedestrian plodder we saw last season?

When you look at the Colts defense, you almost wonder whether the Rams have the opportunity to score 40 or more points.

But let's not forget this is a new offensive system with a suspected right side of O-line. So I'll play it safe and estimate that they will score somewhere between 27 to 34 points.

Colts Vs Rams Prediction

This is almost a "must win" for the Rams, as strange as that may sound.

If you can't beat a Colts team that is without their starting quarterback (Andrew Luck) , center (Ryan Kelly), and best cornerback (Vontae Davis), well, who can you beat?

The Rams are, of course, missing all-world defensive lineman Aaron Donald, but are otherwise mostly healthy. Wade Phillips aggressive, blitzing defense may be more than Scott Tolzien can handle, even with Donald not playing.

The Colts defense isn't one of the leagues better units even when healthy, and the absence of Vontae Davis at corner doesn't help. If the Rams lose this one, we could be looking at  4-12 or worse again. Fortunately, I don't think that will happen.

Prediction:
Rams 27 Colts 14
