Player Bio: Blake Cashman is a former undersized walk-on to the University of Minnesota who is passionate about the game of football. Cashman had offers from Division II schools but chose to make his pathway to Minnesota. His passion and hard work paid off as in 2017 he earned himself a full scholarship with the Gophers team. Whatever Cashman lacked in size, his athleticism performed more of not having a more significant body. His athleticism stuck out on film as he led the Golden Gophers defense with a brilliance of plays. Cashman played in 36 total games in his four-year career with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. His senior year he made 104 tackles (62 solos), 15 tackles for loss, 2 1/2 sacks, and five pass deflections. Cashman career totals 183 tackles (116 solos), 31 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and six pass deflections. Cashman tested well at the 2019 NFL Combines in the top 90th percentile, also raising his stock with running a 4.50 in the 40-yard dash, 4.12 in the 20-yard shuttle, and high marks in his jumps. ​Cashman played in 36 games in his four years at Minnesota (2015-2018).

Strengths: Although he is very aggressive, but is a disciplined player with fluid hips. Plays well in traffic with the ability to filter through and make tackles. Maintains great leverage to deflect to force blockers off him to make a play. Cashman is a cerebral player who processes the flow of the game and recognize situations. Very fast linebacker that has sideline-to-sideline speed to make tackles. A three down linebacker that can play one-on-one coverage with the speedier backs. 

Weaknesses: History of injuries especially surgery on both shoulders are red flags to scouts. Pursuance with bad angles to the ball carrier. Undersized will need to bulk at for the next level. Needs to more active with his hands and times he can get swallowed up by bigger and stronger blockers.

Does He Fit?:  Yes, Cashman certainly has the athleticism that the Rams are looking for in its linebackers. Has the prototypical size that Wade Phillips plays at the inside linebacker position. Cashman is a plus with his great speed and ability to cover. Also can be a great special teams standout for the team.
