Cashman had offers from Division II schools but chose to make his pathway to Minnesota. His passion and hard work paid off as in 2017 he earned himself a full scholarship with the Gophers team. Whatever Cashman lacked in size, his athleticism performed more of not having a more significant body. His athleticism stuck out on film as he led the Golden Gophers defense with a brilliance of plays. Cashman played in 36 total games in his four-year career with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. His senior year he made 104 tackles (62 solos), 15 tackles for loss, 2 1/2 sacks, and five pass deflections. Cashman career totals 183 tackles (116 solos), 31 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and six pass deflections. Cashman tested well at the 2019 NFL Combines in the top 90th percentile, also raising his stock with running a 4.50 in the 40-yard dash, 4.12 in the 20-yard shuttle, and high marks in his jumps. Cashman played in 36 games in his four years at Minnesota (2015-2018).
