Player Bio: Clelin Ferrell played at Benedictine College Prep a all-male military school in Virginia, where earned all-state football honors. Ferrell faced tribulations early in his life as he lost his father during his freshman year of high school. He would miss his entire senior football season after tearing his ACL forcing him to red-shirt.Despite not playing he still would be ranked amongst the countries top-ten defensive recruit coming out of high school. After red-shirting,the following season, Ferrell played well as he and Dexter Lawerence were named co-defensive freshman’s of the year award. Ferrell played in all 15 games registering 50 tackles (12 1/2tackles for loss,) and six sacks. His red-shirt sophomore year, he welcomed the ACC offenses with 63 tackles (18 tackles for losses), 9 1/2 sacks, and two forced fumbles.Clelin avenged his lost the following season at Clemson, he recorded 53 tackles (19.5 tackles for loss), 11 1/2 sacks, three forced fumbles, and four pass deflections. Nothing came even sweeter as Clemson faced Alabama again in the title game and embarrassed the Crimson’Tide 44-16 at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Ferrell announced that he would forego his senior year and enter the 2019 NFL Draft.

Game Film
#99 Clelin Ferrell vs. Texas A&M (2018)

Strengths: Ability to rush the passer from an three point stance or from the stand up position. Versatile player that can fit into a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme. Very fast and fluid in movement.Very explosive off the line of scrimmage with a great first step. Has great pursuit toward the backfield creating a great deal of pressure. Preventing quarterbacks to remain on being comfortable in the pocket because of the allied pressure. Ability to stay consistent with leverage and pad level. Has an arsenal of tricks to fight off blocks. Great technique with his hands to defend off blockers. All around athlete and beast on the field. Unbelievable read and reactionary skills and ability to read RPO plays.

Weaknesses:  On film, Ferrel tend to pursue upright toward the ball putting himself at an disadvantage to smaller and speedy backs, or gets picked off by pulling linemen or chipping backs. Have problems with redirecting his body in space which results in him to lose vision of his target. While shedding blocks tends to not unglue himself in a quick manner. Will need to develop a better inside rush moves at the next level. Conditioning can be of concern as he fatigues late in the game.

Draft Grade: 6.13

Draft Projection:  1st Round

Does He Fit?:  Yes, Ferrell recorded over 50 tackles for losses in his three years at Clemson proving to be disruptive EDGE rusher. The Rams resigned EDGE rusher Dante Fowler to a one year deal and is optimistic Fowler can become that dominate force he once was at Florida. In all efforts, you can’t have too many disruptive players on your defense as Ferrell can fit right in as a staple piece to the Rams defense.

NFL Comparison: Ryan Kerrigan
