DRAFT YR:
  2019     COMBINE INVITE: YES

Player Bio: Montgomery came out of High School (Mount Healthy-Cincinnati, Ohio) as a 3 star recruit which received little attention after playing as a dual-threat QB and earning Division III Ohio player of the Year, as well as Southwest District Offensive Player of the Year. After being just recruited by Miami (OH), Buffalo, Ball State and Iowa State, he decided to join the later College to continue his football progression. He led the Cyclones in rushing as a true freshman (12 games, 4 starts) (109 att. 563 yds. 2 TD's) earned the starting role for 2017, becoming more of a heavy load back, averaging 20 carries per game and having 258 carries in 13 starts, good for 1,146 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning him a spot in the first team All-Big 12 helped also by his versatility as a catcher, logging 36 receptions for 296 yards. By 2018 he was already consolidated as the go-to weapon in the Cyclone's offense, where he played 12 games (11 starts) and garnered 1,216 yards in 257 carries, along with 13 touchdowns and also helping Iowa State by air, having 22 receptions for 157 yards. David Montgomery is one of the safest options for the position in the 2019 NFL Draft he is a good runner, a good blocker and a good receiver, making him a true three down back.

Game Film
#32 David Montgomery vs. Washington St (2018)

Strengths:
-Elusiveness
-Balance
-Great in pass protection
-Three Down Back
-Can line up as a WR and run some routes with precision
-Runs more routes than required for the position.
-Natural ball catcher (on/off body)
-More often than not falls forward.
-Heavy load carrier/ Bellcow RB

Weaknesses:
-Lack of burst in the open field
-Too jiggly in the LOS. Bounces too often instead of pounding the hole.
-Not too many explosive runs.

Draft Grade: 5.85

Value: 2nd Round

Draft Projection:  3rd-5th round

Does He Fit?: YES - The now former Cyclone has been under appreciated his whole career. He is a downhill runner with the ability of catching passes in a consistent and constant basis, which we know is essential in an offense run by McVay & Co. He had an average of 20 carries a game, another trait almost every team in the NFL needs, a true bell cow that can and will do the heavy lifting for the offense. He is an excellent pass pro blocker and has elite vision vs blitz packages.
