Player Bio: Jimmy Moreland is a lockdown corner and the first player ever to be invited to the Senior Bowl from James Madison University. Moreland started 34 games in his career dating back to his true-freshman year. Suffered an injury his sophomore year resulting in a red-shirt and upon his return continued to terrorize receivers in the passing game. By the time Moreland ended his career at JMU, his defensive statistics were extremely impressive. Moreland logged 18 interceptions (six TD interceptions returns including JMU's school-record 100-yard interception return against University of Richmond), 63 pass deflections for his career. Moreland senior year, he registered 56 tackles (7.5 tackles for loss), five interceptions (three TD interception returns in consecutive weeks) 1.5 sacks, 10 pass deflections, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and a blocked punt. Moreland excellent play earned himself the CAA Defensive Player of the Year. Several scouts questioned as Moreland was another player that was a 2019 NFL Combine snub.

#6 Jimmy Moreland Highlights

Strengths: Outstanding when pressing receivers. Press cover corner that locks down opposing receivers with excellent coverage skills. Great footwork and hips are very fluid when asked to flip and run vertically with receivers. Very versatile can line up both outside or as a slot corner. Has great instincts and ability to undercuts routes correctly to make plays on the ball. Bait quarterbacks to throw the ball to areas that he can jump the route. Excellent closing speed with tracking the ball in the air. Ability to pluck the ball out the air at its highest point. Great Blitzer, and great pursuit in run support, and has a knack getting around to the football.

Weaknesses: Has the questionable size for the next level as teams look for bigger, longer corners, but his size compares to the majority of players in the league. Has shorter arms which could conceivably limit him against NFL receivers releasing from the line of scrimmage. Despite his excellent closing speed could hurt him against vertical receivers that possess top-end speed. Need to improve on his tackling in the open field.

Draft Grade: 5.12

Draft Projection: 7th round

Does He Fit?: Yes! Moreland is a player that can contribute as a solid back up or slot corner. Press coverage skill fits right into Wade Phillips defensive schemes. Can be a great contributor on special teams too.
