Game Film
#8 Joejuan Williams vs Ole’ Miss (2018)

Strengths: A smart player who is very cerebral of the game while playing on the field.Very athletic, with above-average speed that manages to stay stride for stride with receivers.  Williams creates critical throwing windows over the top with his height and plays the pocket well. On curls or comeback routes, at his height is very proficient getting vertical and still have the ability to break back to challenge the ball. Has the ability to flip his hips and recover against receivers after a making an unproductive jam at the line of scrimmage. Ideally, without hesitation will engage with runners, a good tackler. William size is scarce for a cornerback; is the ideal physical makeup for any defense. Usually, win from the press coverage of the line of scrimmage. Does well to pry at the pocket with his length and deflects the ball.

Weaknesses: Will grapple to get his head around to locate the ball in the air. Need to work on a getting his head around to defend the deep balls at the next level.   Has a slow transformation from backpedaling to the breaking to the ball.  William's routine is often awkward at the line of scrimmage where he opens up immaturely. On shallow crossing routes or deep in routes, Williams gives up too much separation. Can get rocked back on his heels in while jamming physical receivers, making the transition of getting vertical much delayed. Is not a heavy hitter and will wrestle the ball carrier to the ground as opposed to making impactful blows. Will need to lower his target areas to stop the more prominent and physical runners at the initial contact point at the next level.

Draft Grade: 5.81

Draft Projection:  2nd - 3rd round

Does He Fit?: Yes,Williams physicality, length, and his strength are rare for a player of his height. Initial jam at the line of scrimmage throws the timing off most plays at the next level. A few tweaks with his mechanics, Wade Phillips, can move him around all over the field at corner or safety with his range. A plus in the red-zone to defend against the fade routes.

NFL Comparison: Richard Sherman

Michelle,

According the numbers that we received from Vanderbilt’s pro day, it was recorded as 4.60 improving from his combine number. However, after going back and reviewing the record, it appears that the numbers were edited and corrected.

We thank you for pointing out this error as the correction has been made to his profile. If you should see any other unfactual information, please do not hesitate of contacting us with that precised information.

Best Regards,

WorldWide Rams Team
