Mullens freshman year was a reserve corner and played on special teams. His sophomore year was an All ACC Honorable Mention, and second team ALL-ACC his junior year. He was named the BCS Defensive MVP against Alabama after six tackles, one sack, a forced fumble, one interception, and locking the Crimson Tide receivers in the second half. Mullen is the first cousin of Baltimore Ravens and former Heisman Trophy recipient Lamar Jackson who starred at the University of Louisville. He elected to forgo his senior year to join his cousin Jackson in the NFL.

Game Film
#1 Trayvon Mullen vs Florida St (2017)

Strengths: The best fit to be a man-cover corner in the at the next level. Mullen has excellent length, physical stays glued to the receiver hip. Ability to turn and run with the receiver. Good vertical burst and works great off the break. Very disruptive to receivers route and maintains leverage. Ability to decelerate and collect himself is strong. Pretty stout and his hands carry a hard punch when jamming receivers. Anticipates the receivers routes with the ability to breaks on the ball. Mullen has excellent recovery speed after getting beat off the line of scrimmage. A great tackler who squares up the ball carrier and wraps up when tackling outside his frame. Does not allow many yards after contact by controlling his contact balance. Comfortable in his coverage if misread and does not panic with flexible hips. However, Mullen rarely is beaten with his defensive scheme. Never allowed a touchdown in his Clemson career with less than 300 receiving yards against his coverage.

Weaknesses: Can get turned inside out in press coverage by his over-aggressiveness. At the line of scrimmage, artful receivers can turn Mullen inside out on the release at the line scrimmage.  Does lack the ideal speed to equal jerky receivers. Sometimes get tight hips that will occasionally allow separation. Need to shed blocks more during the run game allowing blockers to dictate his direction.

Draft Grade: 5.75

Draft Projection:  1st Round

Does He Fit?: Yes,  Mullen ability to pin down receivers with his hands and shows excellent range to lessen throwing windows fits him well into Wade Phillips defensive schemes. Always looking for upgrades on the team and Mullen like is counter-part Mark Fields are playmakers. The physical and long-ranging body we help him against the taller and bigger receivers.
