DRAFT YR:  2019     COMBINE INVITE: YES

Bio: Yodny Cajuste is a kid from Miami, who was a former basketball player that traded in his high top Jordans for a pair of football cleats. In high school, he played both the offensive and defensive lines positions. Ranked as the 40th offensive tackle in the nation, and chose West Virginia his as his school of choice. It appeared to be a remarkable decision as he became the starting left tackle as a redshirt freshman at West Virginia University. He started 30 games in his career and named the Big 12’s Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year and All-Big 12 Conference First Team his senior year.

Game Film:
#55 Yodny Cajuste vs (Tennessee 2018)

Strengths: Has great length and footwork needed to protect as blind side protector. As a pass protector he keeps the proper width of the pocket with a stout anchor to absorb pressure and power. Great technique and tenacity to extract defensive lineman out of their gap and creating running lanes. A dominant drive blocker but also has the great lateral mobility to reach and cut block. Can effectively use his length to halt rushers at the end of his reach and extend their routes. A good down field blocker that can get to the second level and seal off pursuit. Plays with proper leverage to maximize his power to sustain blocks. Has enormous and outstanding pop in his punch and grip strength and  overwhelms defenders with power from his legs.

Weaknesses: Tend to lunge at blocks creating off balance, sporadic hand placement, and not properly using angles in the run game. Playing in space can lose his body control and need to improve on being balanced. Needs to refine set points and techniques which leads to inconsistencies in play.  Will get his hands too wide which leads to holding penalties. Can get his weight forward too much and over extend allowing open rush lanes.

Draft Grade: 5.68

Draft Projection: 1st - 3rd Round

Does He Fit?:  Yes! The Rams just lost their starting right guard Roger Saffold and will need to replace him via the draft or free agency. Is a massively big player with long arms, good footwork, and controlled movements in pass protection that has been profoundly tested. Will need some work for crafty pass rushers as offensive line coach Aaron Kromer can get him in the right direction. Probably can slide inside as a guard with flexibility and size.  The Rams can pull the plug on Cajuste with the 31st overall selection.
