Ed “Pi Double i” HendersonWorldWide Rams Greg "The Leg" Zuerlein, kicker for the Los Angeles Rams, will be sidelined for the several weeks due to an injury. During the teams pregame warm-ups, he apparent sustained discomfort to his groin.
The Rams were all set to play their home opener against the Arizona Cardinals, their NFC West rival at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. On the Rams first scoring drive, the offense remained on the field to attempt a two-point conversion. Too many felt head coach Sean McVay wanted to score as many points against the Cardinals defense. On the next Rams scoring drive, the offense needed to settle for a field goal, and it was not Zuerlein, but the punter Johnny Hekker with the kicking honors. Hekker, promptly connected on a 20-yard field to increase the Rams lead by 11-points. Hekker, continued the game with double kicking duties as he also pinned two punts inside the 10-yard anchoring the Cardinals offense back in their territory. Hekker finished the game with one field goal and one point after the attempt adding to his Hall of Fame career. Zuerlein, returning from season-ending surgery for a herniated disc in his back last season, sets him back yet another season. The Rams training staff will monitor him carefully and giving rest a few weeks, should return as strong as expected.
