#6 AUSTIN WATKINS JR HIGHLIGHTS (2019)

Strengths: He has the perfect size for an outside NFL wide receiver that will become a defensive back nightmare. He has the built of an outside linebacker that is very physical, strong, and powerful. He is tremendously explosive off the line of scrimmage, has excellent speed that will take the defense lid quickly, and is fearless in catching the ball. His routes are run with perfection and can set up the defender with various moves, nothing far better than his stiffed leg plant and head fake. He reads the defense and sits down in spots where their open areas start and stop moves. He has good, reliable, and strong hands that pluck the ball out of the air. After the catch, he is very elusive, can make a defender miss in the open field and short-area spaces. He tracks the ball ability is impeccable, and he hauls in balls incapable of being caught.

Weaknesses: His level of competition last season was questionable of the non-elite talent at the cornerback position. He has excellent tangibles for the NFL, but how will he far against higher caliber cornerbacks. He will have the opportunity to answer those questions in Reeses's Senior Bowl coming soon. He does not show an outstanding balance after contact for his size. On another note, two red flags on film, when he is not involved in the play or run plays, he shows no effort and primarily lined up on the offense's left side. He potentially can be a draft sleeper and steal but will have to see how he does in the Senior Bowl and Pro Day.

GAME FILM
#3 Caleb Farley vs Notre Dame (2019)

Strengths: He has the ideal size, length, speed, and versatility of a shutdown cornerback—a physical press cover that can play in man or zone scheme coverages. He is a cerebral player who once was a quarterback and recruited as a wide receiver, has excellent recognition of the routes. He has good fluid hips that allow him to turn, plant, and break on the receiver/ball with excellent control of his body.If he gets beat off the line, he has excellent recovery speed to get back and make a play on the ball. His versatility allows him to outside or inside and will not in any compromising situations. He has excellent leaping ability and will challenge on 50/50 throws down the field. He has good strong hands that rip at the ball after possed by the receiver. Will come up for run support and make the necessary stops.

Weaknesses: A knee injury his freshman year cause him to miss his first season. Converter to cornerback the next year and only two years removed from receiver to cornerback. Set out the entire 2020 season due to the pandemic before declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft. Still learning the position and will need to work more to clean out the rawness. He allows the receivers to find the field's soft spot converting in his area in zone coverages. Against the run, he needs to be more aggressive on tackles, not going too low under the pad level.

#32 DYLAN MOSES

#18/32 Dylan Moses career highlights

Strengths: He is a tough, physical, and versatile linebacker with excellent cerebral knowledge of the game. He is a fierce linebacker who strikes down the line vertically and unfazed with hitting any and everything in front of him. His versatility is uncommon as he plays all four linebacking positions and is tremendously aggressive at all positions at the point of attack. He is a tackler that finishes the play by once the hit the ball carrier is down. He is a textbook tackler with good form and drives thru the runner. He owns the inside of the field on first and second downs and defends his area well.

Weaknesses: He suffered a severe season-ending knee injury his junior year and decided to return to play his senior year. He generally observes every play with his eyes and attacks the area where the action is involved. He will get caught into the run lanes and struggles to disengage off blocks to get to the ball. He needs to get heavier hands and shed blocks more useful for the next level, which may benefit him on the field. Offensive coordinators can use his overaggressiveness against him while pulling the guards, false motions, or play-action and throw the ball or run in the areas he just vacated. Pass coverage skills are minimal, and he will need to work on that to become a three-down linebacker at the next level.

GAME FILM
#7 Ronnie Perkins VS OKLAHOMA ST (2020)

#7 Ronnie Perkins CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Strengths: He is very athletic and tremendously explosive off the ball combined with both power and speed from the edge. His strength is so impressive and unique how forceful he uses it against the blocker. He uses a strong punch with his long-span as a bull rusher driving the blocker back. He plays well against both the run and passes while on the attack. He consistently plays below the pad level maintaining excellent leverage against the run, splitting double teams. He has average bend off the edge and uses an arsenal of pass rush moves, bullrushes, dip, swim, and a club. He is an excellent fit for either 3-4 or 4-3 defenses as he can play with his hand down or as a standup.

Weaknesses: One flaw after reviewing Perkins's game film he can be undisciplined in assignments against the run. He will follow pulling linemen allowing the backside he should contain open for big runs. Despite his arsenal of rush moves, he can get quicker with his hands because he lacks a second move when defeated by the blocker. He needs to work on his bend at the next level, he tends to lean too far forward, and crafty NFL tackles will use his weakness to their advantage.

#12 Jamie Newman vs michigan st (2019)

game film
#12 Jamie Newman highlights (2019)

Strengths: His body is the prototypical type of a quarterback at the next level. He has the height to drop back in the pocket and has excellent vision over the field. His 230-pound frames protect him from a majority of hits and prevent the risk of injury—a dual-threat quarterback who can beat a defense with his arm and legs. He has the unbelievable arm strength to make any throw on the field, with precision on the deep throws. He makes throws at the NFL level and able to zip passes in tight windows. He fits any RPO offenses with his ability to run the ball on protection break down, read-zones, or designed quarterback run plays. He generally looks for an open receiver before he will take off down the field.

Weaknesses: He tends to misread his coverages and thrown senseless interceptions not reading the safeties. He can be inconsisten at times and tries to make every throw on point. Especially on his deep ball, he does not allow the receiver to run under the ball all the defensive back able to make a play on the ball. He will rely on his arm to get him out of trouble that more times than not does. At Wake Forest, he only started one season, before transferring to Georgia. When the pandemic struck, he opted out of the season to prepare for the 2020 NFL Draft. His excellent size is attractive to most teams but his playing time was limited. Can be a steal for some teams or a project for others.

GAME FILM
#52 SAM COSMI VS TCU (2020)

Strengths: He has excellent height and a long wingspan that is typical for a blindside NFL tackle. He has good mobility to get outside as a pull blocker and reach the second level for blocking. He uses power for leverage in the run, blocking blowing out the defender. His best trait is pass blocking, and he can use his length for his leverage. Combined with athleticism and length, he maintains an excellent drop step to use his length to reach speedy edge rushers. Most pass rushers will not beat him on simplistic speed; he is too wise to fall for those tricks. On counter moves, he can recover quickly to protect inside gaps.

Weaknesses: He will benefit better at the next level bulking up with 10-15 pounds; as we can see on film, bull and power rushers can apply issues. He plays like a gentle Ben and needs to play with more aggression. He needs to work on a better anchor and not lunge out at the defender at the next level. He needs work on his hand placement, as he does not react fast enough to the rusher. Tend to get his above the pad level as crafty defenders can use that to his disadvantage.

#72 Tyler Shelvin vs lsu (2019)

Strengths: He has enormous size and will be one of the biggest defensive linemen on the interior front in the 2021 NFL Draft. Bet fit for a 3-4 defensive front as he can play either the 0-tech, 1-tech, or 2-tech alignment in a 4-3 base fronts. Teams with the need for a disruptive nose tackle to eating up space in the middle will find their guy in Shelvin. He takes on several blocks, and good quickness shed them and make a play. His quick feet is surprisingly good because he generates tremendous power on the rush or tackle. His best attribute is defending against the run, with exceptional gap penetration clogging the run lanes. At the level will solidify an anchor in the middle of the defensive front, and defense will get created with inside gap blitzes.

Weaknesses: Shelvin did not play in the 2020 season as he opted out due to the pandemic virus spread. He played sparingly early in his career until the 2019 season, helping LSU win a National Championship, so he is still raw with work needed. He will no better than a two-down defender, as he has no pass rush mechanics. He needs to work on exploding off the snap as he can create more havoc at the next level. A one-trick pony trying to bull-rushing the pocket back is his only move to help the other pass rushers. Because of this, he will dip in the draft, but a need with the need of a nose tackle may take him earlier. He will get his hands above the pad level exposing himself to the interior blocks. He needs to work on his lower body strength as double-team blocks take him off his anchor and get him off-balanced.

GAME FILM
#5 HAMSAH NASIRILDEEN Highlight reel (2019)

#5 hansah nasirildeen career highlights

Strengths: He is a great and very secure tackler who makes a ton of tackles does not allow players to run through him. It is challenging for a runner to get away from him because he is so broad and strong enough to make impact tackles. He plays mostly as a deep safety, but he got plenty of opportunities in and around the scrimmage line. He built is of a linebacker where can play at the strong safety position and a colossal thumper. His versatility allows him to lineup all over the defense. He has good range and is athletic and able to hunt the ball and make tackles. His size allows him to shed blocks and get to the backfield and usually stops the runner in his track. He has good tracking ability and suitable as a blitzing safety. He can play man coverages and has enough speed to run with the backs and receivers. He is a dynamic competitor who makes plays and creates turnovers with powerful hits. With his size, speed and athleticism, he may be recommended to gain ten pounds and converted into a hybrid linebacker.

Weaknesses: He suffered a severe knee injury his junior year that may cause some mobility issues. He tends to make bad reads and have bad angles to the ball. He needs to involve his hands more when engaging with blockers and not allowing them into his torso. He tries to show ball-hawking skills but allows big plays in the secondary.

GAME FILM
#11 Charles Snowden VS NC STATE (2020)

game highlights
#11 Charles Snowden

Strengths: He is a very athletic and fluid edge rusher, and to add a substantial frame. His towering six-foot-seven-inch frame is unheard of for an edge rusher who can rush and allows him to a competitive edge from the outside. He uses his wingspan to control his leverage and free himself from the blocker. He is very mobile and able to shut down the outside run. He has a tremendous tackle radius and makes tackles with much range. He can reach out and wrap up the runner in unexpected areas on the field to make the tackle. Rushing the passer, he uses an arsenal of moves to get to the quarterback with powerful moves. He imposes problems with his long frame as passing lanes and windows are affected by his long arms. When he drops off into coverage, he chews up much ground with his length. He can alter the pass or tips and knock down passes with his arms and hands.

Weaknesses: His tall frame comes with the price of a small lower body that is not very powerful. When engaged with a more powerful blocker, they easily can manipulate him one-on-one pressure. He does not pursue well in traffic and will get knocked off his route. To build up speed to pursue his long strides, take a moment to get going, killing his chances at short burst plays. He also makes bad angles to the ball and does not recover well.

#32 Nick Bolton vs alabama (2020)

#32 Nick Bolton highlights (2020)

Strengths: He is an excellent cerebral player who rarely makes a mistake at his position, tremendously gifted, and a very physical player who enjoys laying the wood. He is an excellent tackler who generally does not miss once in range and terminates any progress. He is a very talented linebacker who plays excellent against the run and rarely caught out of alignment comes downhill like a missile and explodes through the runner. Possess great speed and generally is around the ball first. He plays well against the run and the pass, which allows him to be a true three-down linebacker. He has good range, can go sideline-to-sideline with relative ease while in pursuit with excellent angles to the ball. He is very crafty, maintains great discipline against the run, and lights out as a blitzer. As a pass defender can play both man and zone defense but is very aggressive in the zone. He will not make it easy for the receivers to make the catch as he makes plays breaking up passes in the receiver's hands. An excellent fit for most 3-4 schemes and many sub-packages.

Weaknesses: His arms is a bit short in length that may limit his tackling radius at the next level despite making many tackles. He shows lower body tightness that tends to have him striving to reroute his pursuit to the ball. He is often disadvantaged when he has to cover the backs out the backfield when redirecting his hips. Stiffness also shows up, causing him to rearrange himself in zone coverages and late close on the ball.

GAME FILM
#10 DAYO ODEYINGBO VS LSU (2020)

Strengths: He is an EDGE rusher who combines with both length and explosiveness off the line. It is astonishing how long his wingspan, solid frame, and superb athleticism are on the attack. He is a versatile defender who can lineup all over the defensive front with his hand on the ground. He played at the one-tech and three-tech position and just was disruptive than at the EDGE position, even at the 0-tech position. He keeps a high motor at all times with tremendous energy. He set the EDGE well with his length and is good with disengaging with the blocker and making pursuit to the ball. He uses his length again as a pass rusher with a powerful grip for leverage and power to beat the blocker. He has an ok bend and arc and is very flexible to get around the corner without deaccelerating.

Weaknesses: He needs to get better and more consistent with his counter moves to his arsenal. The spin move that he uses is ineffective on the rush, and if he allows the lineman to get to his torso, he will struggle to disengage from the blocks.

#22 Najee Harris vs florida Sec championship (2020)

#22 Najee Harris college highlights (2020)

Strengths: He has a massive frame and the prototype of a prominent NFL running back. A mighty and explosive runner with good speed that can get outside the edge of the defense. He has an excellent vision that allows him to follow his blocks while running through the open run lanes. A patience back that reads his blocks and waits for the blocks to develop before exploding through the free run gaps. He has a north to south run style but will get east to west in a heartbeat before redirecting himself back on route. To add to his craft, he is a powerful runner that will run through attempted arm tackles or set up the tackler with a  deadly spin move. His combination of speed and power creates his skill level of an every-down back. He is a very productive receiver out of the backfield with great hands and runs decent routes. A total mismatch isolated against a linebacker one-on-one as a receiver. He has excellent awareness as a pass blocker and knows when to release out the backfield for a pass. These skills gives him an competitive edge over any other running back in this 2021 NFL Draft.

Weaknesses: He lacks the breakaway speed from defenders that limit his big-play ability, and he doesn't have that long speed to take it the distance. He has an upright run style similar to Eric Dickerson, which allows the defenders to get free hits on his torso. Play to high above the pad level, and it will be imperative that he develop more knee bend in his run style. Not a shifty back and limited elusiveness that requires him to spin moves that will get him in trouble at the next level. Stout defenses that defend the run will limit his run average despite his 6.1 yards average at Alabama. He needs to enhance his pass protection ability and be required at the next level to stay in for added pass protection.

#75 Dillon Radunz vs Central Arkansas (2020)

Strengths: He has adequate size to play the tackle position at the next level with a compact frame—an excellent cerebral player who has excellent recognition of the game on the field. Slightly underweight, but he has the strength to make up the mass by keeping an excellent broad base for leverage. A tremendous run blocker who mauls the defender to make run lanes from the gap he is opening up—sturdy lower body, powerful legs that he continuously drives after engaging with the rusher. As a pass protector, he uses refined techniques against the speedy edge rusher, and ability to reach him on the arc, and uses a good anchor. He can recognize blitz or stunts at the line of scrimmage and change the blocking schemes pre-snap.

Weaknesses: His 2020 season was interrupted by the pandemic virus's spread, limiting him to play on one game. Once football resumed, he opted out to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft. On film, the level of competition will not translate to the Power 5 conferences on talent. He dominates everyone at his level as a run blocker; however, when he needs to get to the second level of defenders, he will struggle to get there. As a pass blocker, his base and feet are excellent; however, he tends to lunge toward the defender that will have him unbalanced at the point of contact. He needs to work on better hand placement too wide, putting him in situations with holding calls.

2020 Preview & Prediction: Rams vs. Jets

12/19/2020

worldwide rams

Doug Nelson

Picture
Overview: The Los Angeles Rams can clinch a playoff spot with a win in this game, and on paper, the game is a total mismatch. The Jets are 0-13, and oddsmakers are picking the Rams by 17.5. Let's put it in perspective, that's the largest point spread in favor of the Rams since 2001 when favored by 18 points over the Carolina Panthers.

Having said all of that, this is the NFL, and big upsets happen regularly. Very few people expected the Giants to beat the Seattle Seahawks or The Washington Football team to defeat the then-unbeaten Pittsburg Steelers, but the underdogs came out on top in both of those matchups. Then there is the problem of the Rams playing down to the level of their opponents. Losses to the San Francisco Forty-Niners (twice) and the Miami Dolphins should not have happened, and an early-season win over a then-winless Giants team was uncomfortably close.

Games like this can consist of any given Sunday in the NFL. For example, Jared Goff getting into the spirit of the holiday season by giving away the football four times in a game. The Rams special teams, which have been shaky all season, are reverting to form. Yes, the Rams
should win; but as the saying goes, that is why they play the games. You never know.
Coaching: Sean McVay vs. Adam Gase. Seriously, is this even a real question?
McVay is coming off a game where he outcoached Bill Belichick by Belichick's admission. Adam Gase is 0-13 this season and headed for the unemployment line. Yes, the Jets lack talent, but Gase has done little, either in New York or Miami, to prove he belongs among the 32 men who are NFL head coaches.

EDGE: Rams
Picture
Rams Offense vs. Jets Defense: This is the side of the ball that Rams fans should probably be more concerned about in this game. Not so much because Los Angeles has a bad offense as that Jared Goff turns into Santa Claus with the football, giving it away repeatedly.
The Jets could celebrate Christmas with their first win of the season if that happens on Sunday. It may be the only realistic scenario for them to win this game, but it could happen.
Case in point—Dolphins game. Rams were the better team with the four turnovers that included a boneheaded pick thrown to a Dolphins defensive lineman. The stats showed that with the Rams dominating. But turnovers made the difference, and the Dolphins upset the Rams. Los Angeles hopes the good Jared Goff shows up on Sunday, the one who limits turnovers and makes the right decisions. It's not like the Jets have a good defense. They are rated 30th in the NFL and dead last against the pass. They are much better in rushing defense, coming in at 12th in the league.
As bad as this team is, they do have a standout in second-year defensive lineman Quinnen Williams. Williams was possibly the only Jet to draw serious interest from other groups before the trade deadline a few weeks back—so much so that the Jets came out and said he wasn't on the trading block. He has six sacks on the season and can be a disruptive force.

He'll line up across from Rams defensive lineman David Edwards, who pressed into starting duty for them for the second consecutive season after starting the year on the bench. Once again, Edward has played well, but Williams is no walk in the park. If he can pressure Jared Goff into making some bad decisions, the Jets could have a chance in this game.

Rams running back Cam Akers had a breakout game against New England, running 171 yards against the Patriots and earning him the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. The Jets gave up 174 yards on the ground against the Seahawks, a stat they will be looking to improve upon on Sunday. They need to, or they aren't likely to pull the upset.
The Jets secondary should be vulnerable to the passing game, although safety Marcus Maye is not a bad player. But the two young corners in Bryce Hall and Bless Austin don't figure to match up well against Rams wideouts Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. Kupp and Woods both excel in YAC—yards after the catch. That means the Jets need to do an excellent job of coverage and tackle after the ball is possessed.

The Jets probably need to generate pressure upfront unless Hall and Austin can play their best games of the season.
The Jets defense needs to take the ball away and keep the Ram offense under control. That's a tall order.

EDGE: Rams
Picture
Rams Defense vs. Jets Offense: Speaking of mismatches, this one has the potential to get ugly. The Jets offense has been, well, offensive (and not in the right way) this season. New York comes in dead last in NFL total offense, averaging 269 yards a game. The passing offense has been uglier than those old Joe Namath pantyhose commercials, averaging 166 yards a game. That's good for—you guessed it, dead last. They are likewise at the bottom of the league in points per game, with 14.
Many people are calling Jets quarterback Sam Darnold a bust at this point, although in fairness, it's not clear that Patrick Mahomes could do a whole lot with this unit either.
Even so, there are some matchups to keep an eye on, Jamison Crowder (if he plays) is probably their best receiver, and he could see a lot of Troy Hill. Typically the Rams match up Jalen Ramsey on the opposite team's best receiver, but Ramsey is a bigger guy who will likely lock onto the Jets Denzel Mims, a more physical receiver. Crowder was listed as questionable with a calf injury as of Friday, but it would be surprising if he doesn't play.

Of course, before any of that matters, Sam Darnold has to get the ball out of his hands. That could be a problem, considering the challenges posed by one Aaron Donald. AD leads the league in sacks with 12.5, and he's hit the opposing quarterback in every game this year except one. Making the situation even worse, the Jets offensive line, which is not one of the league's better, will be without two starters.

So what will the Jets do to contain Donald? It beats the heck out of us, but they better think of something. Jets head coach Adam Gase said this week that job one for every Jets lineman would be stopping AD. Of course, that is pretty much a weekly occurrence, with AD facing double and even triple teams and often getting held more than a tackling dummy. None of that has been beneficial, and it's hard to see why Sunday will be any different.

The Jets feature a possible future Hall of Famer in running back Frank Gore, the ageless wonder at running back. He's had a great career, but retirement must seem like a better idea these days. This battle may very well match the league's best defense against the worst offenders. Barring either an epic lapse by the Rams or [more likely] a rash of turnovers by the Rams offense, it's hard to see the Jets scoring 20 points in this game.

EDGE: Rams
Picture
Special Teams: This is Ram's main weakness, although placekicker Matt Gay has been a step up over Sam Sloman and Kai Forbath [to be fair, Forbath had a limited audition]. Johnny Hekker deserves to be an All-Pro as a punter, but Nsimba Webster has been iffy returning kicks.

The Rams kick coverage units have not been great either.
Former Ram's kicker Sam Ficken expected to kick for the Jets on Sunday, although he is returning from injury. Ficken is decent, but who knows if he will be at his best. Former University of Miami star Braxton Berrios has his moments as a return man for New York.
Neither team is excellent in this area overall.

EDGE: Even

Prediction: 0-13 teams can be dangerous. After all, we are talking about a roster of NFL players here. The law of averages says the Jets should win a game at some point unless they want to join the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns teams that went 0-16. That rarely happens.

The other factors here are overconfidence and turnovers on the part of the Rams. Let's not forget, the Jets did almost beat a Dolphins team that upset the Rams and are one blown play away from having won against the Raiders. Yeah, the same Raiders team defeated the Chiefs once and came close to doing it a second time.

There is a reason the Rams favored by two touchdowns, having said all that. Los Angeles can be inconsistent, but they should win this game.

2020 Preview & Prediction: Rams vs. Cardinals

12/6/2020

Worldwide rams

Doug Nelson

Picture
Overview: Rams Coach Sean McVay is 6-0 against Arizona, but this a much-improved Cardinals team. The Rams, meanwhile, are coming off an awful performance in a loss to a 49ers team they should have easily defeated. In particular, Jared Goff had a lousy game, throwing a couple of bad interceptions, including one inexcusably picked off by Niner's defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw touchdown. However, interceptions happen; however, getting intercepted by a defensive lineman should be an extreme rarity if it ever happens at all.

Goff did the same against the Miami Dolphins in Week #8. Even coach McVay who is rarely publicly critical of players, commented after the game last week that Goff needs to secure the ball.

The question, could Jared Goff become the next Jay Cutler, a quarterback who is physically talented but continually makes boneheaded decisions? Or just the evolution of a player who has a chance to be an elite-level quarterback at some point? Jared Goff has been both of those players at various times this season. The Rams badly need the good Jared Goff to take the field on today.
Coaching: Sean McVay got outcoached last week versus the 49ers. In general, his play-calling didn't seem up to par, and on Ram's previous series, when they could have won the game, it seemed wildly unimaginative. They ended up punting the ball away for what turned out to be the Niners game-winning drive against San Francisco.

He's facing a similar head man on the opposite side of the field, a young, offensive-minded coach in the Cardinals' Kliff Kingsbury. Many people believe that the Cardinals' hiring of Kingsbury was an effort to find the next Sean McVay.

The Cardinals also has one of the game's better defensive coordinators in Vance Joseph, and the chess game between McVay and Joseph when the Rams have the ball is yet another of the intriguing "game within the game" matchups that make this contest an interesting one. Similarly, the Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley is a rising star. What he will do to try to contain Murray and the explosive Cardinals offense remains to be seen, but Staley has made the right decisions more often than not this year.

EDGE: Rams
Picture
Rams Offense vs. Cardinals Defense: The Rams still have one of the better offenses talent-wise in the NFL. But they haven't always played like it; last week is an excellent example. Jared Goff can't play like he played last week, or the Rams will lose this game; it's as simple as that. We are especially thinking of turnovers here, although the offense did not have a good match as a group. The Cardinals are without their best pass rusher in Chandler Jones, but they can still pressure the quarterback, having racked up three sacks in each of their last two games.

Meanwhile, the Rams offensive line had an off week against the 49ers after mostly playing well this season. There is a growing belief around the league that Jared Goff doesn't handle pressure very well. In fairness, no quarterback likes it, but Goff needs to either throw the ball away or take a sack rather than trying to be some magician when he's under pressure. A disturbing amount of Goff turnovers over the past couple of seasons have come because he didn't secure the ball when a defender has his hands on him. That needs to change.
Goff will need to keep his eye out for safety Budda Baker, a multi-talented playmaker on defense. Baker, much like the Seahawks Jamal Adams, can rush the passer, play up in the box like an extra linebacker, or make plays in coverage, including his fair share of interceptions.
Rams wideout Cooper Kupp will likely battle Cardinals corner, Byron Murphy, although Kupp could see Baker as well. We think Murphy will line up in the slot vs. Kupp, with fellow corner Patrick Peterson playing outside against Rams receiver Robert Woods for the most part. When Kupp plays well, the Rams seem to win. He only had 41 yards last week against the Niners. He needs to do better against Arizona.

Both of these units tend to be unpredictable. We'll check the box for the Rams, but it's close.

EDGE: Rams
Picture
Rams Defense vs. Arizona Offense: There are a couple of fascinating matchups on this side of the ball, including an expected duel between arguably the best wide receiver and best cornerback in the game. No single trade in the offseason had as much impact on the league as the Cardinals acquiring wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Houston Texans via a trade.
Meanwhile, Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey has been enjoying a stellar season, including clearly getting the better of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf in a win  a couple of weeks ago. The Kyler Murray to Hopkins connection has been one of the best in the league this season, and Ramsey needs to keep Hopkins under control if the Rams are to win this game.
Speaking of Murray, he's looking like one of the game's rising stars, a genuine dual-threat who can beat you with his arms or with his legs. He has 19 passing touchdowns and ten rushing touchdowns coming into this game, and you could argue that he is Lamar Jackson with a better arm. That's high praise considering Jackson was the league MVP last season.

The Rams linebacking corps, in particular, needs to be disciplined and do their jobs. That means the outside linebackers need to set the edge while inside linebackers Kenny Young and Troy Reeder maintain their lane discipline and don't get out of position.

Of course, there is always the little matter of a confident Aaron Donald upfront. Donald has had some of his best games against the Seahawks Russell Wilson, a player with a similar skill set to Murray. Donald is likely to see a lot of Cardinals guard J.R. Sweezy. Donald and Sweezy's became familiar with each other when Sweezy played for the Seattle Seahawks. Donald has mostly gotten the better of Sweezy in the past. No quarterback, even one as mobile as Murray, likes to see inside pressure, especially when A.D is applying it.

The Cardinals will be without future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald, who is on COVID-19 restriction. But they still have plenty of other weapons, and the Rams secondary had better come to play on Sunday.
This game will strength against strength. We'll rate it as a tossup, and whichever team wins this battle will likely win the game, assuming the Rams don't get too generous with turnovers on the other side of the ball.

EDGE: Even
Picture
Special Teams: One of the few bright spots to come out of the Rams loss last week was the solid work of placekicker Matt Gay. He at least offers some hope that the year-long Rams kicking struggles have come to an end.

The Rams also have the league's best punter in Johnny Hekker. But the Cardinal's Andy Lee is no slouch either. And Arizona placekicker Zane Gonzales is a heady veteran who has faced pressure situations and come through more often than not. The Rams seem to be showing some overall improvement in special teams, but Arizona gets the edge here.

EDGE: Cardinals

Prediction: The oddsmakers say Los Angeles by 2.5, but the Rams are so inconsistent that you can never be sure what you will get. If they can limit turnovers and score some points, they should win, but you never know with Jared Goff. Or even Sean McVay. The Rams coach is an excellent play-caller and play designer, but he can also be stubborn and overly pass-happy at times. Our advice for anyone tempted to bet on this game is "don't do it."
But for entertainment purposes only…
