DRAFT YR:  2019     COMBINE INVITE: YES

Player Bio: Carl Granderson played high school football at Grant High School in Sacramento, Calif. where he excelled as a linebacker on one of the top teams in the state. As a senior, he racked up 15 sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. He chose to play college ball for the University of Wyoming, choosing the Cowboys over such programs as Boise State and Washington State. In 2017 Granderson was named to the First-Team All-Mountain West squad as a defensive end after recording 9.5 sacks. However, he had a less-than-spectacular 2018 season, logging only 3.5 sacks for the Cowboys. In February of 2019, alleged Third-Degree Sexual Assault and Sexual Battery charges filed against Granderson. According to the latest report, the legal ramification of those charges remains unknown at this point.

#91 carl granderson vs. New Mexico St (2017)

Strengths: Granderson at 6'4 and 254 pounds, is blessed with long arms and a build that would allow him to either play outside linebacker in the Rams 3-4 defensive scheme or perhaps play defensive end in a traditional 4-3 scheme. At his best, he is a relentless pass rusher with a variety of moves and great competitive fire. Granderson has played well in big games. High-motor guy who always hustles and will run down plays from a distance given a chance. Sees the whole field and processes play well. Plays extremely hard and is a good tackler. Granderson at his best is a hustling over-achiever who is more of a "football player" than a gym rat who will blow people away with his combine numbers.

Weaknesses: There are the off-field questions, but in terms of his football ability, Granderson will not blow anybody away with a 4.79 40 time, or for that matter his combine numbers in general. Many scouts consider him athletically limited and a guy who is not as fluid in his movements as we expected. Does not have a ton of "big game' experience and did not play in a power conference. Probably more of a project in the NFL than a "plug and play" guy. Not a great run defender, could end up as a pass-rush specialist in the NFL.

Draft Grade: 5.37

Draft Projection:  5th - 7th Round

Does He Fit?:  As the Rams are not counting on him to start from day one, sure. Granderson is a type of player Wade Phillips could develop for the future. Because of his limitations on rush-defense, probably would project as a pass-rushing OLB if he ends up with the Rams

NFL Comparison: Tayshawn Bower, Minnesota Vikings
