Player Bio: Officially changed his last named from Chauncey Gardner in honor of Brian "Pops" Johnson, whom Chauncey regards as a family member even though they are not blood relatives. Gardner-Johnson was named a USA Today All-Florida selection as a senior at Cocoa High School before heading to the University of Florida.. Began his college playing career as a backup defensive back as a freshman, where he also excelled on special teams. He did crack the starting lineup by the end of the season, and notched two interceptions in the Outback Bowl in 2016, becoming the first freshman to win Outback Bowl MVP since Emmitt Smith. Anytime a player can get their name mentioned in the same sentence as Emmitt Smith, that is a very good thing.

Game Film
#23 Chauncey Gardner-Johnson vs. Michigan (2019 Peach Bowl)

Strengths: An athletically gifted player who is fast enough to match up in man coverage with opposing wide receivers and big enough to matchup with tight ends and play well in run support. Tracks the ball well and generally takes good angles. Versatile player who can cover slot receivers, blitz, play up in the box like an extra linebacker and even do well on special teams. In terms of athleticism and versatility. Gardner Johnson is a "do it all" kind of player who could almost be considered a cornerback/safety hybrid. At one time his tackling was considered somewhat questionable, but he has worked hard on that skill and improved greatly.

Weaknesses: Gardner-Johnson declared one year early, and most of his flaws have to do with technique rather than athleticism. His footwork could be better, and he has a tendency to lose his balance on occasion. Like a lot of young players, he can be over-aggressive and sometimes will get caught out of position because of it. Even though his tackling has improved, he still misses more tackles than you would like. Because of the over-aggressiveness and tendency to miss tackles, he can get burned on big plays now and then.

Draft Grade: 5.90

Draft Projection:  1st - 2nd round.

Does He Fit?:  Certainly, although the Rams are probably set at safety and may not want to burn a high draft choice on a player who will probably not start right away when they have other pressing needs. Having said that, Gardner-Johnson's versatility and ability to cover several roles with a single roster spot is very attractive.  But as things currently stand, the Rams don't have a second round pick, and my guess is they will go offensive or defensive line with their first round pick.. If Gardner-Johnson should fall to the third round (where the Rams have two picks) or the Rams end up with a second-round pick via trade, this guy could be a high pick.

Player Bio: Dexter Lawrence played his high school football at Wake Forest High School in North Carolina, where he made a name for himself by being named Associated Press High School Player of the Year, notching 13 sacks. Considered a top-five recruit was coming out of high school, he lived up to that billing as a freshman at Clemson, being named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2016. The next year he was named First Team All-ACC, and repeated that honor ain 2018 as a junior. The only red flag on an otherwise stellar college career was his suspension for testing positive for a PED (performance enhancing drug) as a junior. Lawrence decided to forego his senior year and enter the 2019 NFL draft, where most observers think he could go in the first round.

Game Film
#90 Dexter Lawrence vs. Duke (2018)

Strengths: A massive man who is capable of playing either DT in a 4-3 alignment or nose tackle in a 3-4, Lawrence is a classic run-stuffer who can clog up the middle of the field and shut down the inside running game. Lawrence can shed blocks quickly and shows surprising lateral movement and athleticism for a man his size. He can easily occupy two blockers and hold the point of attack against the run. Played against top opponents in college, although he did miss Clemson's playoff games last season because of his drug suspension. While he isn't a polished pass rusher, he can overwhelm blockers on sheer size and strength.  Has a high ceiling based on his natural physical ability and the fact he came out of college a year early.

Weaknesses: As good as he was at Clemson there are those who think he underachieved in college. Not a great pass rusher, and tends to rely on brute strength rather than technique. Some scouts think he would be a better overall player is he dropped a few pounds. Didn't make a lot of big plays in college, and some think he gets a little sloppy when he gets tired. Was suspended for taking a banned substance in college.

Draft Grade: 6.19

Draft Projection:  First Round

Does He Fit?:  Absolutely. The Rams defense lacked a true classic nose-tackle the past couple of seasons, and Lawrence could solve that problem and go a long way towards shoring up a run-defense that has been below average to downright bad. The big problem is that Lawrence probably won't be available when the Rams pick at number 31. Could they engineer a trade to move up and get him? Given Les Snead's willingness to aggressively go after players he really wants, you can't rule it out.

WorldWide Rams

Ed “Pi Double i” Henderson

Picture
Player Bio: Blake Cashman is a former undersized walk-on to the University of Minnesota who is passionate about the game of football. Cashman had offers from Division II schools but chose to make his pathway to Minnesota. His passion and hard work paid off as in 2017 he earned himself a full scholarship with the Gophers team. Whatever Cashman lacked in size, his athleticism performed more of not having a more significant body. His athleticism stuck out on film as he led the Golden Gophers defense with a brilliance of plays. Cashman played in 36 total games in his four-year career with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. His senior year he made 104 tackles (62 solos), 15 tackles for loss, 2 1/2 sacks, and five pass deflections. Cashman career totals 183 tackles (116 solos), 31 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and six pass deflections. Cashman tested well at the 2019 NFL Combines in the top 90th percentile, also raising his stock with running a 4.50 in the 40-yard dash, 4.12 in the 20-yard shuttle, and high marks in his jumps. Cashman played in 36 games in his four years at Minnesota (2015-2018).

#36 Blake Cashman vs. New Mexico St (2018)

Strengths: Although he is very aggressive, but is a disciplined player with fluid hips. Plays well in traffic with the ability to filter through and make tackles. Maintains great leverage to deflect to force blockers off him to make a play. Cashman is a cerebral player who processes the flow of the game and recognize situations. Very fast linebacker that has sideline-to-sideline speed to make tackles. A three down linebacker that can play one-on-one coverage with the speedier backs.

Weaknesses: History of injuries especially surgery on both shoulders are red flags to scouts. Pursuance with bad angles to the ball carrier. Undersized will need to bulk at for the next level. Needs to more active with his hands and times he can get swallowed up by bigger and stronger blockers.

Draft Grade: 5.39

Draft Projection:  3rd round

Does He Fit?:  Yes, Cashman certainly has the athleticism that the Rams are looking for in its linebackers. Has the prototypical size that Wade Phillips plays at the inside linebacker position. Cashman is a plus with his great speed and ability to cover. Also can be a great special teams standout for the team.

Khalil Hodge
LB
HOMETOWN              |            CLASS
Antioch, CA             |            Senior

DRAFT YR:  2019     COMBINE INVITE: NO

Player Bio: Khalil Hodge a California native who grew up in Antioch, CA where he starred as a prep in football. His freshman year, he attended the nation's powerhouse De La Salle High School. However, after a family decision, Hodge transferred to St. Mary's High School in Stockton, California. Hodge played three seasons at St. Mary's, and during his senior year, he achieved the improbable. Hodge astonishingly would lead the NATION with an unbelievable amount of 262 tackles. During his senior campaign, Hodge would record 22 tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception against Buhach Colony High School in Atwater, CA. Despite Hodges success at the prep level, unfortunately, his great statistics and talent did not transition well to the Division 1 recruiters. Hodge only received offers from two FCS schools, Weber St in Utah and local Sacramento St. Hodge declined those offers after following his instincts of attending a JUCO and provide more exposure on film of his talented production as a linebacker at the next level. He chose to enroll at City College of San Francisco, a California JC that previously won nine national championships. Hodge not only attended CCSF, he also won the starting middle linebacker job that finished the season with a 12-1 record and crowned National Champions. At this point, the University of Buffalo were seriously in search for a middle linebacker until they watched Hodges film. After reviewing Hodge's game film, they knew they found that player to fill their void. Hodge attended the University of Buffalo and became an immediate starter as he was named Two-time All-MAC linebacker. His junior year he would finish second in the nation with 154 tackles. However, shortly after his junior season, Hodge received some tragic new back in California. Hodge tragically learned that someone murdered his younger brother Kadeem. Khalil and Kadeem were very close growing up as kids and looked up to each other. The lost of his younger brother did not stop Hodge's journey to the next level but only help intensify his efforts. Hodge vowed and dedicated the 2018 season to his brother after finish 4-10 on the year. The team accepted the challenge along with Hodge where it paid off as the Bulls ended 10-4 on the season. Despite Hodge's prominent senior year and successful career at Buffalo, however, the 2019 NFL Combine committee seemed not to be impressed with his efforts. Many NFL analyst and coaches were confused of the fact that Hodge did not receive a combine invite. Here we have a player who recorded three consecutive 100-plus tackles in the year and finished his career with 426 tackles in three seasons. However, some scouts felt that it was justifiably so as Hodge did not help his cause at Buffalo's Pro Day. Hodge had an abysmal performance all-around, his poor forty of 5.02 seconds (hamstring tightness), bench press only of 16 reps, 29-inch vertical, and 109-inch broad jump. We have known Hodge for most of his life and unbiasedly speaking despite his poor performance, no player has the dedication and put forth the hard work to be better than Hodge. As a five-year-old, his father Howard Hodge (former coach) had him at the park working on calisthenics, footwork, and obstacle drills. He has a gift on the football as being a "tackling machine."
Hopefully, there will be one team that will overlook his pro day numbers and give him a shot at what he does best on the field with making tackles. Not long ago Buffalo saw another Khalil (Mack) enter the NFL draft, and he’s a superstar, and the current Khalil expects to follow the same pathway.

Game Film:
#4 Khalil Hodge vs. Temple (2018)

Strengths: A cerebral player that identifies offensive formations and RPO plays. A great nose for the football that is always around the ball. A very good tackler that demonstrates excellent quickness and instincts in run defense. The ability to fire out to ball carriers at the point of attack making the tackles. Ability to make plays in the box. Ability to spin off blocks and athletic enough to still make tackles inside gaps. Uses his hands good and avoid blocks in pursuit ball carrier and dip under to make the tackle. Has good lateral pursuit from hash to hash. Adequate pass rush and the presence in mind of not hitting lately on quarterbacks.

Weaknesses: Speed is now a major concern after poor time at pro day. Lacks the sideline-to-sideline speed but still manages to make a play. At the next level will be tested in the passing game with one-on-one coverage with faster backs; challenging if a true three-down linebacker. Needs to get stronger, stout lower body is excellent but will benefit with upper-body strength. Length is questionable has shorter arms than the average positional player. Struggles to shed head-on blocks by bigger blockers staying glued to long to develop quicker rip moves. Need to avoid the lower pad level tackles and deliver more pop at the next level.

Draft Grade: 4.98

Draft Projection: 6th - UDFA

Does He Fit?: Yes- Sliding from one of the top pre-season linebackers to watch to watching his stock slide significantly, he is now likely destined as a Day 3 selection or UDFA. Hodge remains as one of my most underrated players entering the 2019 NFL Draft. Setting aside the poor pro day stats, one thing you can't take away is his ability to make tackles. Rams can benefit from his tackling ability in a 3-4 scheme concept. Wade Phillips and John Barry can help his game rise even further in situational play. Maybe a short time project, however, will make many big plays at the next level with years to arrive.

Player Bio: Montgomery came out of High School (Mount Healthy-Cincinnati, Ohio) as a 3 star recruit which received little attention after playing as a dual-threat QB and earning Division III Ohio player of the Year, as well as Southwest District Offensive Player of the Year. After being just recruited by Miami (OH), Buffalo, Ball State and Iowa State, he decided to join the later College to continue his football progression. He led the Cyclones in rushing as a true freshman (12 games, 4 starts) (109 att. 563 yds. 2 TD's) earned the starting role for 2017, becoming more of a heavy load back, averaging 20 carries per game and having 258 carries in 13 starts, good for 1,146 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning him a spot in the first team All-Big 12 helped also by his versatility as a catcher, logging 36 receptions for 296 yards. By 2018 he was already consolidated as the go-to weapon in the Cyclone's offense, where he played 12 games (11 starts) and garnered 1,216 yards in 257 carries, along with 13 touchdowns and also helping Iowa State by air, having 22 receptions for 157 yards. David Montgomery is one of the safest options for the position in the 2019 NFL Draft he is a good runner, a good blocker and a good receiver, making him a true three down back.

Strengths:
-Elusiveness
-Balance
-Great in pass protection
-Three Down Back
-Can line up as a WR and run some routes with precision
-Runs more routes than required for the position.
-Natural ball catcher (on/off body)

-Too jiggly in the LOS. Bounces too often instead of pounding the hole.
-Not too many explosive runs.

Draft Grade: 5.85

Value: 2nd Round

Draft Projection:  3rd-5th round

Does He Fit?: YES - The now former Cyclone has been under appreciated his whole career. He is a downhill runner with the ability of catching passes in a consistent and constant basis, which we know is essential in an offense run by McVay & Co. He had an average of 20 carries a game, another trait almost every team in the NFL needs, a true bell cow that can and will do the heavy lifting for the offense. He is an excellent pass pro blocker and has elite vision vs blitz packages.

Strengths: A smart player who is very cerebral of the game while playing on the field.Very athletic, with above-average speed that manages to stay stride for stride with receivers.  Williams creates critical throwing windows over the top with his height and plays the pocket well. On curls or comeback routes, at his height is very proficient getting vertical and still have the ability to break back to challenge the ball. Has the ability to flip his hips and recover against receivers after a making an unproductive jam at the line of scrimmage. Ideally, without hesitation will engage with runners, a good tackler. William size is scarce for a cornerback; is the ideal physical makeup for any defense. Usually, win from the press coverage of the line of scrimmage. Does well to pry at the pocket with his length and deflects the ball.

Weaknesses: Will grapple to get his head around to locate the ball in the air. Need to work on a getting his head around to defend the deep balls at the next level.   Has a slow transformation from backpedaling to the breaking to the ball.  William's routine is often awkward at the line of scrimmage where he opens up immaturely. On shallow crossing routes or deep in routes, Williams gives up too much separation. Can get rocked back on his heels in while jamming physical receivers, making the transition of getting vertical much delayed. Is not a heavy hitter and will wrestle the ball carrier to the ground as opposed to making impactful blows. Will need to lower his target areas to stop the more prominent and physical runners at the initial contact point at the next level.

Draft Grade: 5.81

Draft Projection:  2nd - 3rd round

Does He Fit?: Yes,Williams physicality, length, and his strength are rare for a player of his height. Initial jam at the line of scrimmage throws the timing off most plays at the next level. A few tweaks with his mechanics, Wade Phillips, can move him around all over the field at corner or safety with his range. A plus in the red-zone to defend against the fade routes.

Player Bio: Mark Fields, a top 100 overall high school recruit and the son of former New Orleans Saints linebacker Mark Fields Sr, opted to return to Clemson for his senior year to improve his stock in the 2019 NFL Draft and to also win another national championship. At the 2019 NFL Combine, Fields increased his stock by running a 4.37 in the 40-yard dash with the fourth fastest 40 times. Unfortunately, Fields return to Clemson turned out to be a deep defensive backfield with potential first-round draft prospect Trayvon Mullen and Mackensie Alexander, Ryan Carter, A.J. Terrell. Fields best game was in the 2019 BCS Championship against the Alabama Crimson Tide as he locked down Bama's best receivers. He came in to play the entire second half for the injured Mullen and made two impressive pass deflection. Fields have limited film due to the deep defensive backfield of the Tigers and also battling injuries throughout his career. He was a starter in 2017 but injured his foot missing six games. Despite the limited playing time, he does have the real ability to cover receivers and making him an intriguing NFL prospect.

#2 Mark Fields Career Highlights

Strengths: Very smooth with his techniques which can quickly turn from press coverage and still get vertical still locking his eyes on the receiver. Effectively uses his speed to turn and stay on top of the receiver routes. Has lightning quick feet that can change the direction easily.  Has excellent ability to close out the underneath throws to break on the ball and batting it away with his instincts. Ability to play the ball, not play the man and quickly reading routes break to locate the ball. Can read receivers routes and breaks on the routes. Very physical will stick his nose into traffic to make stops targeting his tackles low. Aggressive tackler when closing over the back of receivers. Ability to mirror well in space and gets ball carriers to the ground.  Targets low and will stick his nose into traffic to make stops. Physical tackler when closing over the back of receivers. Mirrors well in space and gets runners on the ground.

Weaknesses: Lack of experience only started six games in his career because of injuries. Lacks great use with his hands causing him to miss jams at times and fail to delay releases. May struggle at times with his length against taller physical receivers. Will anticipate on his first reads and get him out of most favorable position. When forced to go outside his frame for stops, lack of length limits him. Not very fluid as he demonstrates a little stiffness in his backpedaling. Slight delay in coming out of backpedaling to drive forward toward routes. Will bite on head fakes or double move routes.

Draft Grade: 5.52

Draft Projection:  3rd - 5th round

Does He Fit?: Yes! Fields combination of speed, strength, and his explosiveness should transitions well at the next level. An NFL pedigree, his athletic attributes, and physical man cover skill could give him a chance to be a starting nickel or slot corner. The ideal type of cornerback in the Wady Phillips system, and with more playing time will become a pro-bowl player. After an impressive second half in the BCS game, Fields demonstrated how he would become a lockdown corner for years to come.

#1 Trayvon Mullen vs Florida St (2017)

Strengths: The best fit to be a man-cover corner in the at the next level. Mullen has excellent length, physical stays glued to the receiver hip. Ability to turn and run with the receiver. Good vertical burst and works great off the break. Very disruptive to receivers route and maintains leverage. Ability to decelerate and collect himself is strong. Pretty stout and his hands carry a hard punch when jamming receivers. Anticipates the receivers routes with the ability to breaks on the ball. Mullen has excellent recovery speed after getting beat off the line of scrimmage. A great tackler who squares up the ball carrier and wraps up when tackling outside his frame. Does not allow many yards after contact by controlling his contact balance. Comfortable in his coverage if misread and does not panic with flexible hips. However, Mullen rarely is beaten with his defensive scheme. Never allowed a touchdown in his Clemson career with less than 300 receiving yards against his coverage.

Weaknesses: Can get turned inside out in press coverage by his over-aggressiveness. At the line of scrimmage, artful receivers can turn Mullen inside out on the release at the line scrimmage.  Does lack the ideal speed to equal jerky receivers. Sometimes get tight hips that will occasionally allow separation. Need to shed blocks more during the run game allowing blockers to dictate his direction.

Draft Grade: 5.75

Draft Projection:  1st Round

Does He Fit?: Yes,  Mullen ability to pin down receivers with his hands and shows excellent range to lessen throwing windows fits him well into Wade Phillips defensive schemes. Always looking for upgrades on the team and Mullen like is counter-part Mark Fields are playmakers. The physical and long-ranging body we help him against the taller and bigger receivers.

#28 Andrew Wingard vs. Iowa (2017)

Strengths: A sturdy, high motor player who is not afraid to hit or be hit. A sure tackler who finished tied for 11th in the all-time FBS total tackles list. Surprisingly good in run defense despite his smallish size, Wingard is not afraid to stick his nose into the fray and always seems to be involved in the tackle. A sound technician in terms of angles. Wingard has the perfect mental toughness and makeup to be a solid to perfect special teams player if that is what he must to do to make the team. Has a nose for the ball, recorded five interceptions as a junior and two more as a senior. Wingard is a football player in the real sense of that phrase, and he always made his presence felt on the field during his time with the Cowboys.

Weaknesses: Wingard is neither especially big nor all that fast, and had some problems with pass interference calls in college, in part because of a tendency to not turn around and play the ball. Because of his physical limitations, he is not great in pass coverage and fast enough to recover when he does get beat in coverage. Wingard can be a little over-aggressive in biting on the run on play-action plays.

Draft Grade: 5.38

Draft Projection:  6th - 7th round

Does He Fit?: Yes, As a day three selection who could immediately contribute on special teams. Wingard is a chronic over-achiever and some of his flaws in terms of unnecessary flags should be correctable with coaching. Wingard is not going to start right away, but with the Rams set at the safety position he could excel on special teams and benefit from coaching and learning from  veterans such as Eric Weddle.

#65 Garrett Bradbury vs. Florida St (2018)

Strengths: Tough, smart, athletic center who played well against top opponents, including a Clemson defensive line. Bradbury widely considered to be the best in the nation. Didn't get fooled very often by stunts or gimmicks in college. Will be projected as a day one starter in the NFL rather than being a "project." Good at getting his hands on nose tackles without getting flagged for holding. Has good core strength and moves well for an interior lineman. Projects as an NFL center, but could step in at guard if needed. At the NFL Draft, there are no certainties, but Garrett Bradbury may be about as close as you can get.

Weaknesses: Some scouts think he tends to lean a little bit too much and that some of his hand techniques are predictable. Slightly on the small side for an NFL center. Played in a college offense that featured the quick passing game, so he's not necessarily experienced at protecting a quarterback who may hold the ball a little longer waiting for deep routes to open up

Draft Grade: 5.92

Draft Projection:  1st Round

Does He Fit?:  Absolutely, if he is available at number 31 when the Rams pick, which he may not be. As the 2018 season starting center John Sullivan no longer with the Los Angeles Rams, Bradbury would be a great replacement and possibly an improvement.

He started 25-games, ending his career with 77 total tackles (56 solos), four tackles for loss, one forced fumble, two interceptions, and 15 pass deflections. Led his Bulls team in 2017 with nine pass breakup. One career sack that sealed a victory for Buffalo against Akron in 2016. Slack once was asked what was one of his pregame rituals? He responded by saying he prays throughout the day and visualize himself making plays. #9 Tatum Slack Highlights

Strengths: Exceptionally quick, with good speed and swift feet. A good leaper with the ability to jump to defend taller receivers. Good fluid hips and has the ability to turn and run with any receiver. Good press cover corner that interrupts passing routes. The ability to identify routes and that places himself in position to break on the ball. Has quick hands that help to create pass deflections. A physical player that does not shy away from contact. A bit of a firecracker that will come up and deliver a bang.

Weaknesses: Short in height that can expose him in red zone play with the taller receivers.  An aggressive player with at times can get himself out of position. Can be exposed to double moved routes with using his aggressiveness against him. Need to be able to shed blockers with not allowing them to attack inside his torso area. Does not play that well in space but does make the effort of coming up. Lunges at tackles opposed to driving through in open space.

Draft Grade: 4.92

Draft Projection:  6th - UDFA

Does He Fit?: Slacks statistic does not stick out, however the one area that do, is his capability of breaking up passes during his career. In the 2018 Dollar General Bowl in Mobile, AL, Slack displayed his great breaking ability to the ball with two near interceptions. As good of a press cover defender Slack play, he fits in with the defensive scheme of Wade Phillips play calling. Has the ability to play outside but will be a better fit as a slot corner. Probably will be a significant contributor on special teams and a quality backup at the next level or even a practice squad player for further development. Probably will be a day three draft selection with any team that needs a press corner.

#6 Jimmy Moreland Highlights

Strengths: Outstanding when pressing receivers. Press cover corner that locks down opposing receivers with excellent coverage skills. Great footwork and hips are very fluid when asked to flip and run vertically with receivers. Very versatile can line up both outside or as a slot corner. Has great instincts and ability to undercuts routes correctly to make plays on the ball. Bait quarterbacks to throw the ball to areas that he can jump the route. Excellent closing speed with tracking the ball in the air. Ability to pluck the ball out the air at its highest point. Great Blitzer, and great pursuit in run support, and has a knack getting around to the football.

Weaknesses: Has the questionable size for the next level as teams look for bigger, longer corners, but his size compares to the majority of players in the league. Has shorter arms which could conceivably limit him against NFL receivers releasing from the line of scrimmage. Despite his excellent closing speed could hurt him against vertical receivers that possess top-end speed. Need to improve on his tackling in the open field.

Draft Grade: 5.12

Draft Projection: 7th round

Does He Fit?: Yes! Moreland is a player that can contribute as a solid back up or slot corner. Press coverage skill fits right into Wade Phillips defensive schemes. Can be a great contributor on special teams too.

Strengths: There is a lot to enjoy about Devin Bush. A tough, hard-nosed, physical player whose 40 time is outstanding for a linebacker, Bush likely projects as a first-round selection for a team, although whether he will still be there when the Rams pick at number 31 of that round is an open question. Bush is a versatile player who can play any linebacker position and who faced top opposition in the Big Ten Conference, where he was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2018. Bush is right in pass coverage and notched five sacks last season. A high-motor guy who never stops until the whistle blows and never had any off-field issues to record.

Weaknesses: For all his pluses, Bush does not have ideal size for an NFL linebacker, primarily an inside backer in most schemes. He sometimes gets swallowed up by larger blockers and can get fooled on misdirection plays. Bush could improve some of his pursuit angles and occasionally runs himself out of a play because of that.

Draft Grade: 5.95

Projection: First Round

Does He Fit: The Rams signing of Clay Matthews may make this a little less likely, but Bush can play, and we never want to pass up on a real talent if he is available. While Bush might be considered a little smallish to play inside in the NFL, Rams Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips has been starting guys of about that size inside (Corey Littleton and the now-departed Mark Barron) during his Rams tenure. Wade could utilize a player like Bush. Whether Bush will still be available at the Rams selection at 31 (barring a trade) may be a better question.

Malcolm Brown's Offer Matched By Rams

The Los Angeles Rams reportedly will match the Detroit Lions offer of running back Malcolm Brown with a $3.25M contract for two-years. Brown also will receive $1M guaranteed with a signing bonus of $100K to go along with his contract.

Earlier this month the Rams used a low-round tender on Brown for a one-year $2.025M deal, as the Lions placed their offer. However, if the Rams elected not to match the Lions offer, the team would not have received any compensation for Brown because he was an undrafted rookie player.

After the news of Brown's offer reportedly matched, many suggested that former running back CJ Anderson appeared to have gone on a tirade by tweeting bitter tweets toward the Rams organization. Anderson would tweet:
Lol the disrespect is real guess It is what It is. It’s the same story over and over. All I ever wanted was a full opportunity to play 16. My 16 vs anybody else 16 with no front office / coach trying to move me out the way or play we like this guy game. Just want a 16 all I ask.

However, earlier this morning Anderson cleared the air with clarity of last night tweet by posting this:

By the way my disrespect tweets last night had nothing to do with the rams. Had a long convo with some 1 I trust and that’s how that convo ended. I thank the rams for a beautiful opportunity It was very fun.

As it turned out, if you continued to read through Anderson's thread, he was engaged in a conversation with fans of the Denver Broncos about his previous team while in Denver. The thread appeared to start about football talk and the opportunities that could be afforded for Anderson. Anderson just finished a workout just a bit before 4:00 AM PST while tweeting back and forth. Assuming that some may have taken his previous tweet out of content, he immediately made it clear and thanked the Rams for the opportunity.

In a sense, you have to feel a bit disappointed that the Rams resigned Brown and not Anderson. If you look from a statistical standpoint, in Brown's four years with the Rams, he carried the ball 124 times for 514 yards with a touchdown. Brown also had 18 receptions for 149 and one touchdown. Anderson carried the ball 67 times for 403 and two touchdowns. Anderson also had five receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Viewing these statistics between the two backs, Anderson managed to produce better numbers in just three games with the Rams. Also to point out the fact that in Anderson thread, a Rams fan asked the question of why was not an offer made to him by the Rams? As humbled as Anderson has been answered the question with great dignity:

@cjandersonb22 CJ, can you please get specific about what’s going on and why an offer wasn’t made (if so) and what you’re being told??

Your fans want to know, Boss.

Nonetheless, the Rams made their decision and brought back Brown with a new two-year deal to platoon with Todd Gurley. We thought we may have seen the last of Brown with the Rams after adding free agents Eric Weddle, Blake Bortles, and Clay Matthews to the roster. General Manager Les Snead has worked out the numbers again to get the deals done. Congratulations to Malcolm Brown as he wears the Rams horns for at least two more seasons

Game Film
#64 Eric McCoy vs Kentucky (2018)

Strengths: A very athletic player that fast and has the ability to get to the second level. The ability to sustain blocks at the point of contact, screens, the open field and can get outside as a pulling center. The ability to achor bull rushers with nice wide base. Has strong hands with great technique. Has a high IQ of the game where he play tough, and battle to the whistle blows.  Versatility that can play either multiple positions.

Weaknesses: Despite having the ability to drop anchor on bull rushers, still needs to get stronger for the next level. Questions circulates regarding short arms that may become a issue for rushers with longer frames. Not a mauler as a blocker but holds contain of blocks.

Draft Grade: 5.91

Draft Projection: 1st round

Does He Fit?: Absolutely! Rams lost to starters from their offensive line this off-season not resigning John Sullivan and Roger Saffold. However, the team does have second-year players Brian Allen (center) and Joseph Noteboom (guard/tackle) who projected as starters. However, a team cannot have too much depth at offensive lineman position, as Erik McCoy brings athleticism to the mix. McCoy brings a different level of speed at the center position as the Rams can control an outside run game.
