DRAFT YR:
  2019     COMBINE INVITE: YES

Player Bio:  If the name sounds familiar to long-time Ram fans, there is an excellent explanation to the name. Devin Bush Sr. was a starting safety on the 1999 Super Bowl Rams team. Devin Jr. was born in 1998 and grew up in Florida. However, when the moment came for him to decide where he wanted to play college football, he passed up a scholarship from his dad's alma mater, Florida State, in favor of the University of Michigan. In his time with the Wolverines, Bush earned a reputation as a physical, high-motor guy who always played until the whistle and was known to chase down plays from across the field. When Devin Bush hit a ball carrier, they felt his hits.

Game Film
#10 Devin Bush Jr vs. Norte Dame (2018)

Strengths: There is a lot to enjoy about Devin Bush. A tough, hard-nosed, physical player whose 40 time is outstanding for a linebacker, Bush likely projects as a first-round selection for a team, although whether he will still be there when the Rams pick at number 31 of that round is an open question. Bush is a versatile player who can play any linebacker position and who faced top opposition in the Big Ten Conference, where he was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2018. Bush is right in pass coverage and notched five sacks last season. A high-motor guy who never stops until the whistle blows and never had any off-field issues to record.

Weaknesses: For all his pluses, Bush does not have ideal size for an NFL linebacker, primarily an inside backer in most schemes. He sometimes gets swallowed up by larger blockers and can get fooled on misdirection plays. Bush could improve some of his pursuit angles and occasionally runs himself out of a play because of that.

Draft Grade: 5.95

Projection: First Round

Does He Fit: The Rams signing of Clay Matthews may make this a little less likely, but Bush can play, and we never want to pass up on a real talent if he is available. While Bush might be considered a little smallish to play inside in the NFL, Rams Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips has been starting guys of about that size inside (Corey Littleton and the now-departed Mark Barron) during his Rams tenure. Wade could utilize a player like Bush. Whether Bush will still be available at the Rams selection at 31 (barring a trade) may be a better question.
