Player Bio: Montez Sweat was a tight end in high school in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He initially enrolled at Michigan State University but played only two games in 2014. He left Michigan State in 2016, enrolling in a community college in Mississippi. Considered the 24th-best community college player in the nation, he chose Mississippi State over LSU and Texas A&M. He earned All-SEC team in 2017 and a First-Team All-American in 2018.

Game Film
#9 Montez Sweat vs. K-State (2018)

Strengths: Sweat is a hard man to block; he uses his hands well and sheds blocks quickly. He has good length with a build that will allow him to put on a few pounds if that is what is wanted. Has elite speed for a man his size (his 4.41 forty times at the combine was a record for a defensive lineman), can get up the field quickly and pressure or sack the quarterback. Has long arms and the ability to knock down passes. Montez Sweat is an elite talent who has a chance to be a star in the NFL.

Weaknesses: Somewhat awkward in his lateral movements and could improve his lower body strength. Not the greatest open field tackler. Tends to play high and lose the leverage battle with shorter offensive linemen. Some of his technique is not the best, although that should be correctable with coaching. Could be more fluid in rush defense.

Draft Grade: 6.34

Draft Projection:  1st Round,

Does He Fit?: Absolutely without any question at all. However, it seems doubtful that he will be there when the Rams pick at number 31 in the first round. But with questions about a heart condition reportedly scaring some teams away from Sweat less than a week before the draft, it now seems more realistic that Sweat may fall to the Rams. It then becomes a question of what the doctors advising the Rams think. One thing is for sure Montez Sweat could be a monster for the Los Angeles Rams defense if the health issues don't scare them away
