Player Bio: John Simpson prepped at Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, SC. He was a three-year starter while Fort Dorchester, who was a finalist as South Carolina Mr. Football. He was named Palmetto Lineman of the year his senior year, and the #2 overall player in the state of South Carolina. He received an invitation to play in the US Army All-American game, and named Rival #3 prospect. As a junior, he won the state in wrestling. Being highly sought by Florida and LSU, he chose to enroll at Clemson, where he was a four starter.​.

#74 john simpson vs Ohio State (2019)

Strengths: He has a very massive body with great size and length and very strong. Very powerful with the ability to push the defenders out of their gaps responsibility. He is a versatile lineman who can play both of the interior guard's position. Simpson moves well as a pulling guard from both guard positions on the line and can get up to the second level of defenders. He has ample awareness and great recognition of the attacking defenders from blitz and stunts. He lowers an excellent anchor that can resist the bull rushers and more reliable defender.

Weaknesses: Despite being a good blocker, however, his hand deployment in inconsistent. In outside zone blocking, he lacks the ideal speed and as well on screenplays. As a run blocker will halt his feet and depend on his anchor to stall the penetration. He needs to work on reaction timing because he always seems to be the last lineman out of his stance—Will over lean too far forward from high hips causing him to become unbalanced from lunging. Too many penalties compromise his concentration on full-start throughout his career.
